1. Foundations

Our journey begins on the planet Foundations, where you learn about Python, the software we use throughout our exploration. Although there are other programming languages suitable for Data Science, we use Python because it is easy to read and understand. On this planet we also introduce techniques that are used on all of the other planets you explore.

2. Describe

On the Describe planet, you learn how to explore data to understand its content. You need to quantify the range of values, identify missing or null values, and understand variability within the data. This information helps you decide how to appropriately use the data. You explore summary statistics, correlation measures, and basic data visualizations.

3. Discover

The next stop on our journey is the Discover planet. The focus of our visit is on building an understanding of the key relationships within our data. This includes discovering natural groupings, as well as determining which data attributes are important.

4. Predict

On Predict, you build upon what you learned on the Describe and Discover planets in order to predict likely future outcomes. You study how we can predict the value of one data attribute based on the values of others, using techniques such as classification, regression or recommendation.

5. Advise

Now that you can predict likely future conditions, it’s time to learn how to choose the course of action that best achieves a desired outcome. Once you know that, you can advise decision makers on what actions they should take.

6. Scale

Our exploration of the Data Science Universe concludes on the Scale planet. On our journey we showed you how to Describe, Discover, Predict, and Advise, but the data you encountered could always be stored and processed on a single machine. On the Scale planet we show you how to apply our Data Science tools when the data gets so big that you need several machines.
